Day 1: Arrive Christchurch
On arrival at Christchurch airport you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your accommodation. Vibrant and cosmopolitan, Christchurch enjoys exciting festivals, theatre, modern art galleries, great shopping and award winning attractions. Internationally known for its award winning gardens, Christchurch is a graceful city that values its culture and heritage.

Day 2: Punting on the Avon & Evening Dining
This morning sit back and relax in a custom built beautifully upholstered punt as your boatman guides you past the sights of the central city. Enjoy the tranquillity and calm which is uniquely Christchurch. Your punting journey takes you right through the central business district of the city, giving you a different perspective of lovely parks, historic buildings and tree lined avenues - punting, an experience unique to Christchurch .... (except of course if you’re in England). The remainder of the day is at your leisure. This evening we have included a special dining experience, the Evolution Menu with matching wines at Pescatore Restaurant at The George Hotel. With its long-standing reputation, and panoramic views over Hagley Park, Pescatore continues to earn its position as one of New Zealand’s best contemporary dining experiences.
Day 3: Christchurch to Kaikoura & Discover the Whales
Transfer to the train station this morning and travel by Tranz Coastal train through the rolling hill country of North Canterbury, enjoying the beauty of its rural pastoral scenes, to Kaikoura where mountains meet sea. On arrival you enjoy a three hour Whale Watching experience by boat. Off the coast of the Kaikoura village is a marine environment so rich in nutrients that it attracts some of the most magnificent creatures with which we share our planet. Among them the giant Sperm Whale which can grow up to 20 metres in length and has the largest brain of any animal alive. Not only can you be introduced to the magnificent Sperm Whale, but also to migratory Humpback Whales (June & July), Orca (summer months), New Zealand's own tiny Hectors dolphin, the high spirited displays of the Dusky dolphins, New Zealand Fur seals and the Royal Albatross.
Day 4: Kaikoura to the Marlborough Sounds
This morning you rejoin the Tranz Coastal train for your journey to Picton. On arrival you join your water taxi and transfer to your accommodation located in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds. The Marlborough Sounds is a network of fiord-like waterways, sheltered by steep hills, most clad in native and timber forests. Bordered by forest that rises almost vertically from the water’s edge, three drowned river valleys offer 1500 kilometres of sheltered beaches and waterways for sailing, cruising, kayaking, fishing and diving.
Day 5: At Leisure
The Marlborough Sounds is a paradise offering the opportunity to partake in so many enjoyable activities. Indulge in a favourite pastime or try a new diversion! Perhaps enjoy bush walking as you tramp the Queen Charlotte Track at your own pace. Hire a kayak and explore the sheltered bays and beautiful Sounds coastline either on a guided or independent option. Try your hand at fishing or take a helicopter or seaplane flight to see the region from another perspective. The choice is yours.

Day 6: Marlborough Sounds to Wellington
Return to Picton by water taxi today and join the Interisland Ferry for your journey across the Cook Strait to reach Wellington. The Cook Strait is the stretch of water that separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand and the journey has a dramatic beauty all of its own. Both Islands can be viewed, including the magnificent Kaikoura ranges, and there is often the chance to see wildlife such as seabirds, dolphins, seals, whales and orca. On arrival in Wellington you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.
Day 7: Walking Gourmet Tour
Today you'll enjoy a great introduction to Wellington's lively food scene and some favourite food places. And Wellington is so compact, it’s ideal for this unique Walking Gourmet tour. Start with great coffee and tastes at one of our favourite boutique coffee roasters and café. Explore the best fresh food store where real Wellington foodies and chefs shop where we’ll gather a basket of products to taste. On the way we’ll explore many of our favourite cafes, bars and food outlets, including some indigenous foods, and see why we regard ourselves as New Zealand’s café capital. Then indulge in a 3 course tasting lunch with matched New Zealand wines at a top Wellington restaurant or café.
Day 8: Depart Wellington
Sadly your time in New Zealand comes to an end as you are transferred by private vehicle to the airport for your onward flight. Here, we bid you a fond farewell to your homeland and hope you leave with many happy memories of your stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
