Day 2: Auckland to Rotorua via Waitomo Caves As you depart Auckland today, suburban scenery gradually gives way to the farmland of South Auckland, an area favoured by bloodstock breeders. The Waikato River will then accompany you for much of your journey through the green countryside to reach Hamilton, a city carved in two by the mighty Waikato River. Continue South through prime farmland to reach the Waitomo Caves region. Here you enjoy a guided tour of the world famous Waitomo glowworm caves including an underground boat ride (weather permitting) on a subterranean river. Overhead thousands of tiny glowworms light up the cave walls and roof. Then travel through a mixture of farmland, lakeland and forest to reach the geothermal city of Rotorua.
Day 3: Rotorua Sightseeing A fun filled day is in store as you discover five of Rotorua's best attractions! Your pass includes The Agrodome Sheep Show, an exciting and informative insight into the world of New Zealand agriculture. You then visit Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park which offers great features including kiwi, trout, tuatara, pigs, sheep, native birds and trees and New Zealand's only 'open to view' kiwi hatchery and rearing facility. Then it's onto Skyline Skyrides & Gondola boasting the best views in town before visiting Te Puia, the premier Maori cultural centre in New Zealand - a place of gushing waters, steaming vents, boiling mud pools and spectacular geysers. You end your day at Polynesian Spa with a relaxing soak in the thermal hot pools. Day 4: Rotorua to Queenstown Travel to Rotorua Airport today and return your rental vehicle in time to connect with your onward flight to Queenstown. On arrival, collect your new vehicle and make your way to your accommodation. Perhaps the most famous of all South Island cities, Queenstown’s pulse thumps to the beat of action, adrenalin and visual wonder. Set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu with the towering peaks of the Southern Alps in the background, this is the place that is often referred to as the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’.
Day 5: Dart River Wilderness Safari The ‘Wilderness Safari' is a diverse adventure exploring spectacular 'World Heritage' wilderness within Mt Aspiring National Park through a combination of exhilarating wilderness jet boating, informative guided ancient forest walk and back-country 4WD safari vehicle. Surrounded by awe-inspiring peaks and mysterious hidden valleys shrouded in native Beech forest, your specialist guides will bring to life the variety of landscapes, vegetation and wildlife within this unique area, as well the captivating stories of the original Maori and early pioneers. Day 6: Explore Queenstown Surrounded by majestic mountains, Queenstown boasts adventure activities in all forms, from extreme to relaxed exploration. Today is free for you to experience some of the many activities on offer. Here you can take a thrilling jet boat ride, pan for gold, raft the white water rapids, take a wine trail, fish for trout, play golf or 4WD sheer canyons. It is also a great base from which to explore the Fiordland National Park, gateway to Milford & Doubtful Sounds. Day 7: Queenstown to Mount Cook Depart Queenstown and travel through the rugged and beautiful landscape of Otago. Cross the Lindis Pass into the Mackenzie Country to arrive in Mt Cook National Park where you will find New Zealand’s tallest mountain, Aoraki / Mt Cook which stands at 3754 metres. Here you join the only tour of its kind in New Zealand and one of only three in the world. This is a memorable and amazing up close encounter with New Zealand's largest glacier, the Tasman Glacier. Explore, learn and discover the ever-changing glacial landscape as you journey across the Tasman Glacier Terminal Lake in a custom-built MAC Boat with your experienced guide. Please note that the Glacier Explorer Tour does not operate from May to September. If you are travelling during these months, an alternative activity will be provided.
Day 8: Mount Cook to Christchurch A leisurely drive today as you depart Mt Cook National Park and travel along the western side of Lake Pukaki as you head north towards Christchurch. You may like to stop at Lake Tekapo on the way, where you can view the solitary Church of the Good Shepherd.
Day 9: Depart Christchurch Sadly your time in New Zealand comes to an end as you return your rental vehicle to Christchurch Airport in time to join your onward flight. Here, we bid you a fond farewell to your homeland and hope you leave with many happy memories of your stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
